Local Priorities Shoplifting Message

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

This week one of our most prolific shoplifters by the name of Keeley PARSONS who persistently targeted both Co-ops as well as Marks and Spencer’s and other stores in Blackheath and has now been charged and sent to prison.

Kidbrooke SNT Officers have been working closely with the Co-op’s staff and managers of stores on Shooters Hill which have been heavily targeted by a large number of shoplifters including PARSONS. It was identified that a small number of offenders were committing the majority of shop lifting (including PARSONS). These offenders were identified using Facial Recognition in the stores as well as using CCTV , this combined with the securing of statements related to all of their previous offending ensured that robust cases were built prior to the arrest . This targeted approach makes the best use of resources.

When multiple offences became case-ready, plain-clothes officers then traced and arrested PARSONS and gained charges against her. There are a number of active investigations ongoing regarding shop lifting, we will keep you updated on progress.

Shoplifting is a crime that can have a substantial negative impact on local businesses across London. If you notice anything suspicious or witness anyone shoplifting, please report it as soon as possible. These reports are invaluable in letting us build a picture of when and where shop lifters operate, meaning we can be in the right place at the right time to arrest those responsible.
