In recent weeks, you may have noticed Rick on patrol with a bottle or two in hand. But don’t worry, he hasn’t joined forces with Luther and the Rogues to draw out Cleon and co. (that’s a reference straight outta 1979). Throughout October, 15 glass bottles have been recovered from the streets of Eastbrook and Rush Green with safety in mind.
While Met Police-led weapon sweeps are conducted almost daily across London, glass bottles can be missed, but still pose a potential risk if used as a makeshift means to cause harm.
While the ward remains a largely safe place to be, a moment of anger or ‘red mist’ could see a glass bottle reached for in the spur of the moment. By removing bottles from the streets, violent altercations can be minimised.
Woodshire Road (4), Bell Farm Avenue (2) and Hardie Road (1) in the Parkside beat, along with Rush Green’s Philip Avenue (2) and Great Cullings (2), are just some of the locations bottles have been collected from over the last 4 weeks.
A broken bottle has also removed from Central Park in that time.
