March Fraud Statistics

Dear resident,

Hope you are well!

I enclose the up to date fraud statistics for March 2025 in the attachment of this message. For those who have not seen these before  the document sets out reported fraud for Richmond in that month. Unreported fraud would increase the amounts and number of cases quite drastically as so much goes unreported. The message if you have been a victim is always to report to Action Fraud (click on link) as soon as you can. As with burglary its essential investigators have as much information as possible, and crimes are often linked - yours might provide vital evidence or information in that link.

Sadly March 2025 showed £1,142,010 with 76 losses, the fourth highest figure for a month since December 2021 at £2,612,836. A factor in this is the after effect of Christmas but if you look at each month's analysis there is really no pattern.

I still find these figures quite horrifying - an average  loss of £15000 per person means many people will suffer a much larger blight than that, and  the effect in financial and emotional terms is highly unpleasant.

Please look at the Advance fee fraud analysis - and guidance. Also note (courtesy of "which" ) that identity fraud is on the rise.

What can you do! There is no shortage of advice or guidance so why have we got £1,142,010 lost in recorded offences?

1. It can happen to you!

2. Always step back before you commit money. If goods are cheaper than the market norm are they genuine?

3. Keep up to date with advice from all sources.

4. Can we present sessions on scam awareness to groups or clubs locally - please ask!

Stay safe!

Kind regards
