Community Safety & Partnership Update โ€“ Ridley Road & Gillett Square

Community Safety & Partnership Update โ€“ Ridley Road & Gillett Square

Thanks to your feedback and continued support, we've taken positive action this week to tackle key issues in Dalston - from drug supply and anti-social behaviour, to public safety and community engagement.

Positive Progress Following Community Concerns

Weโ€™re pleased to share some recent successes and positive updates following the Council and Police Engagement Day at Ridley Road. These actions were carried out in direct response to concerns raised by residents at the recent Ward Forum, and we thank you for your ongoing insight and support.

Targeted Police Activity at Ridley Road Market

  • This week, the Dalston Neighbourhood Policing Team conducted targeted patrols in the Ridley Road area.
  • With the help of a police sniffer dog, we discovered and seized a significant amount of cannabis hidden around the marketโ€™s shipping containers โ€” clear evidence of organised supply activity.
  • Further investigations are underway to identify those responsible.

Arrest & Charge at Market Stall

  • Acting on further intelligence, officers made an arrest at a market stall suspected of supplying cannabis.
  • Cannabis was recovered from both the stall and a nearby lock-up.
  • The suspect has been charged with Possession with Intent to Supply Class B โ€“ Cannabis and was remanded in custody to appear in court the following day.

    Continued Action in Gillett Square

  • Earlier this week, two suspects were arrested for drug supply offences in Gillett Square.
  • The arrests followed intelligence gathered from CCTV.
  • Both individuals have been given strict bail conditions and ASB (Anti-Social Behaviour) interventions aimed at disrupting further activity in the area.
  • Additionally, Dalston SNT (Safer Neighbourhoods Team) is working closely with Hackney Council to tackle ongoing issues of loud music and alcohol consumption in Gillett Square. These behaviours have been regularly raised as a concern by local residents, and joint patrols and enforcement activity are now being planned to address the problem directly.

VAWG Engagement Event with Hackney Council

In addition to enforcement activity, officers attended a Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Engagement Event in partnership with Hackney Council.

This was a valuable opportunity to listen to local voices, raise awareness, and reaffirm our shared commitment to making public spaces safer โ€” particularly for women and girls.

    Thank You, Dalston Residents

We want to extend a sincere thank you to all residents who attended the Ward Forum and continue to share their views. Your feedback plays a vital role in shaping our priorities and ensuring we are focusing on the right issues.
