Theft of handbags

I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

We are currently matching CCTV imagery to persons stealing hand bags in High Street Kensington, whilst the owners are in coffee shops.

In the event that a Designer hand bag is stolen. Police will need the hand bags unique SERIAL NUMBER. Hand bag serial numbers play a crucial role in demonstrating both authenticity and ownership. Please take time to record and photo your hand bag and its serial number, before any loss. The serial numbers are sown into the edges inside, not that easy to find.
If there are any slight markings, scratches etc, please also photo these.

Stolen handbags do re-appear in second hand shops after being stolen, so a hand bags serial number is crucial to Police, as it gives a bag an individual identifying cross reference.
