Good News Stories W/E 20th July 2025

Good Morning Resident

The team wanted to share the good news stories that have occurred in the local area over the last two weeks, following the work the team has been doing. This is the work that the teams of Beckenham Town and Copers Cope, Clock House, Kelsey and Eden Park and Shortlands and Park Langley have been a part of.

This week the team have been part of a new proactive neighbourhoods initiative, which allows the teams to focus on anti-social behaviours and volume crime across the wards. Volume Crime can include robbery, burglary, shoplifting, vehicle crime, criminal damage and drugs. This is being tested across Bromley allowing for our teams to have more access to resources such as marked vehicles and more officer numbers.

Kelsey and Eden Park have had a positive stop and search following being on foot patrol in Harvington Recreation Ground. They came across a young man hidden in a wooded area who was in possession of cannabis. He was detained and searched & issued a community resolution warning.

The Beckenham and Shortlands teams, have attended the Copers Cope Residents Associations, Market on the Green, this was a great opportunity for the teams to meet members of the community and getting more residents signed up to Met Engage.

All four teams underwent E Bike Training, this training provided the teams with more knowledge around the legislation around E Bikes, and what to look for when we are dealing with them. This training will assist the teams in some of the upcoming initiatives going on.

Officers from the Shortlands team arrested a well-known shoplifter in Beckenham for shoplifting at the time of arrest he was also in possession of an offensive weapon and was further arrested. He has been charged for both offences and was remanded to appear at court.

Kelsey and Eden Park team have been working very closely with Tesco's Elmers End Superstore following a series of late night car meets causing anti-social behaviour, the store have now installed additional speed bumps and adjusted cameras covering the car park to deter gathering of vehicles.

The teams have noted some of the requests around some of the contact sessions and the times in which they are being hosted, we are looking to address these in order to facilitate for more people to attend. August dates are to be confirmed and will be on next week’s letter.

Crime Prevention Advice

With the warmer weather, sunny days can prove a viable time for opportunistic burglars, as they look for easy targets.

So while you’re enjoying the summer weather, please remember these simple tips to keep your home and belongings safe:

  • Never leave your front door unlocked. Don’t leave windows open in unoccupied rooms, especially in those which are easily accessed from public areas.
  • Don’t leave valuables on show.
  • When sorting the garden ready for the summer, don’t leave your equipment out when you are inside or aren’t at home – lock it up securely.
  • If you’re going on holiday and planning to post on social media, ensure your posts aren’t public. You may be advertising that your home is empty. Also set your burglar alarm if you have one and consider setting lights and/or a radio on a timer.
