Street Robbery Crime Prevention Advice

I wanted to provide you an update regarding robbery, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey.

Robbery is when force is used or threatened to steal items.

Thieves often target people who ore distracted, so keeping
your valuables including your mobile phone and other
devices hidden ensures you're more alert.

HOW CAN I STAY SAFE?
- When out and about - be aware of your surroundings.
- Stay alert when walking along the rood for criminals who might use
bikes/mopeds or e-scooters to snatch phones/valuables.
- Try not to walk along with your phone or valuables on show.
- Earbuds/Headphones can be o distraction.
- Plan your route and use forms of transport that others ore using and
ovoid shortcuts in isolated places.

IF YOU ARE A VICTIM
Crime prevention advice con help reduce your chances of being robbed,
but it may still happen to you. It con be o frightening experience and
leave you feeling worried afterwards, especially if you felt threatened
or violence was used. Talking to o parent or adult you trust con help.

IF YOU SEE A ROBBERY TAKING PLACE...
Thieves may use force or threatening behaviour. It's better to hand
items over thon risk your own safety.
If you see o robbery or one has just token place call police on 999.

We will continue to tackle robbery in your local area. While we are investigating and arresting those responsible, please consider following the below advice to keep yourself and your property safe:  

  • Do not leave your phone, tablet or other digital goods unattended, out of sight or on a table.  

  • Be aware of your surroundings and only use your phone when it is safe to do so. 

  • Put your phone away when you have finished using it.  

  • Secure your phone by choosing a strong pin or password 

  • Keep a note of your IMEU number (to access, type *#06# on your phone keypad) 

  • Plan your route, especially if you are going somewhere you have not been before. Keep to busy, well-lit streets and walkways. Move with purpose and appear confident.
