Royal visit to Yourspace in Sears Park |
||
A royal visitor came to Yourspace on Friday afternoon.
At 1400 hrs a convoy of outriders swept down the path to the community garden followed by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh also known as Prince Edward.
He had been invited as patron of the London Garden Society as Yourspace had been awarded the title of London's Best Community Garden for two of the last three years.
Many groups were in attendance including Sutton Repair Cafe and Friends of Sears Park and residents of Tennyson Grange and the local dementia group. There were also many volunteers who help run the place in attendance.
HRH spent time looking at the beehives and all the other projects that Kevin the founder of this community garden has put together over the years.
I also had the pleasure of having a chat with him he asked was i the ‘beat officer’, which police station was I stationed at and what I did at Yourspace. I told him that I hosted drop in surgeries and attended community events there.
The event finished having slightly overrunning and the bikes started their engines and off the roared leaving everyone chatting about what an exciting afternoon it had been.
Congratulations to Kevin and all his helpers on a wonderful event! | ||
