More officers to police Brixton

This summer we have been working hard to tackle the crime we see tick up over the warmer months in the busiest areas of London. This week, Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes was visiting officers in Brixton who have been working hard to tackle the crimes that matter most to you, like anti-social behaviour, pickpocketing, mobile phone theft and robbery.

Thanks to our efforts so far in the town centre we have seen:

  • Knife crime decrease by 53.8%
  • Violence against a person decrease by 23.5%
  • Robbery of personal property decrease by 64.3%
  • Residential burglary decrease by 66.7%
  • At the same time, we are keen to make sure that our busiest areas have the resources they need. Yesterday we announced that we are committing an extra £32m to keep our town centre’s safe. This will mean more officers to join the Brixton Town Centre Team, so that they can relentlessly target prolific offenders as well as being visible and approachable to protect the public and deter criminals.

A write up of this announcement, along with what it means for Brixton can be found on the Brixton Blog: Brixton to get more police – Brixton Blog

While we continue to work hard to deliver a safer Brixton, we are also keen to hear from you on how we can do better. Yesterday we launched our new strategy: A New Met for London: Phase 2, which is our strategy for policing London over the next three years. The strategy is still in consultation, so please have a read and complete our survey to let us know what you think.
