General messages on theft from and of vehicles are not leave valuable items in an unattended vehicle especially never leave bags on display as thieves will enter a vehicle hoping they contain something valuable.

It is important to double check if cars are left locked and secure as well as making sure there is sufficient lighting around the vehicles at night as well as making sure that keyless vehicles have keys left far away from the vehicle or even better placed in a key signal blocking device.

There has been a regular occurrence in incidents where individuals are being distracted at ATMs (particularly Sainsbury’s on Lower Richmond Road) and having their bank cards/cash stolen.

These schemes often involve a diversion – such as dropping items nearby, asking for help or pointing out an issue with the ATM.

    To stay safe:

  • Remain alert while using an ATM.

  • Avoid engaging with strangers who approach you during transactions

  • Shield your pin

  • Retrieve your cash promptly and be sure to hide your card before addressing any distractions.

  • If you feel uncomfortable, cancel the transaction and use a different machine in a well-lit, populated area.

NEXT POLICE LIAISON GROUP (PLG) MEETING:

The next PLG meeting will be held in October 2025 (date/ location TBC).

It is your chance to meet the local Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers who will provide updates on local crimes and policing issues. You also will be able to question the SNT and have a real input in the way that North Richmond is policed.  Local councillors also attend.
