I wanted to provide an update regarding Violence against women and girls, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Havering Innovation Hub Brings Communities Together to Tackle Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) The Havering Innovation Hub held last week brought together local charities, support services, and community organisations to focus on innovative approaches to tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
The event featured powerful testimonies and highlighted the strength of partnership working across Havering. Key themes included collaboration, listening to survivors, and the importance of encouraging positive male role models to challenge inappropriate behaviour. Organisations such as Cranstoun, Aanchal Women’s Aid, Hourglass, Surviving Economic Abuse, Andy’s Man Club, MENDAS, and Gingerbread Havering showcased their ongoing work in the borough, from trauma recovery programmes and economic support to behaviour change programmes and confidential safe spaces.
Attendees were encouraged to continue building connections, sharing resources, and working collectively to ensure no victim is left without support.
Inspector Jayshree Patel said "The Innovation Hub is about bringing people together to learn, share and take action. Tackling VAWG requires all of us, multi-agencies, charities, and communities, to play our part. I’m proud of the commitment shown here in Havering and the impact these partnerships will have on those who need it most. I am passionate about bringing different strands together and will continue to support and provide a platform for charities, services, and community voices to work together towards ending violence and abuse."
