During recent foot patrols, many of you raised concerns about fly-tipping, which continues to be a prominent issue in Norwood Green and Southall. We want to share some important information on what fly-tipping is, why it matters, and how you can help keep our community clean and safe.

What is Fly-Tipping and Littering?

Fly-tipping and littering involve discarding items in public spaces, ranging from household rubbish to hazardous materials. Common examples include:

General littering: Household rubbish, plastic bags, individual items, and dog fouling.

Fly-tipping: Illegal dumping of large items or waste on roads, land, or rivers—such as fridges, washing machines, or construction debris.

Hazardous items: Drug-related paraphernalia (needles, syringes), discarded drugs, and items like condoms, which pose serious health risks.

Why is this a problem?

Fly-tipping and littering are more than just unsightly—they can:

Create health hazards and unpleasant smells.

Attract pests.

Endanger children, pets, and wildlife.

Lead to further dumping if not addressed quickly.

What can you do?

Report it to your local council, who will arrange safe removal.

If you witness fly-tipping or hazardous waste:

Take a photo if safe to do so.
