Theft of Catalytic Converters |
||
|
Evening Residents,
Hope your all having a lovely, chilled Sunday !
Catalytic converter theft continues to affect areas across London, including the borough of Chelsea, as thieves target the valuable metals inside these devices and can remove them in under a minute. Police and crime prevention experts warn that incidents most often occur in car parks or residential streets, with hybrid vehicles at particular risk due to the higher value of their components. To reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim, motorists are advised to park in well‑lit, overlooked areas or secure garages, consider fitting manufacturer approved locks or guards, and use forensic marking to make converters harder to resell. Remaining alert to signs of theft such as a vehicle suddenly being jacked up or loud cutting noises can also help residents report suspicious activity promptly.
If your vehicle is situated in a car park that has a manual gate please ensure you close it behind you as this will deter opportunist thieves.
If you witness a catalytic converter theft in progress, call 999 immediately, and if it’s safe, provide details such as descriptions or vehicle number plates without approaching the suspects.
