Staying Safe Around Water in Warm Weather |
||
|
Dear all, With very warm weather for next week, we would like to remind families about the importance of staying safe around water. Swimming in open or unfamiliar water—such as rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and quarries—can be very dangerous. Even if these places look calm and inviting, they can hide serious risks: Strong or hidden currents Sudden drops in depth Very cold water (cold water shock) Poor water quality Hidden objects under the surface Safety Tips for Children and Young People Do not enter water that is unfamiliar or unsupervised Only swim in safe, designated areas with supervision Stay with friends and look out for each other Avoid taking risks or showing off Understand how quickly water can become dangerous Always stay with a trusted adult near water Never go into water unless you are told it is safe If something feels unsafe, stay out and tell an adult Message for Teenagers Water conditions can change quickly—don’t underestimate the risks Cold water can affect your breathing and movement immediately Make smart choices and look after your friends. We want all children and young people to enjoy the sunshine safely and responsibly over the coming weeks. Thank you for your support.
