I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. A friendly reminder to stay vigilant when you're out and about. Pickpockets often target busy places such as local markets, train/tube stations and bus stops.
Pickpockets often rely on distraction and can work quickly without you noticing.
Here are a few simple ways to protect yourself : - Keep your bag zipped up and worn across your body where possible - Avoid keeping your phone or wallet in your back pocket - Stay aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas - Keep valuables out of sight and only carry what you need - Consider using contactless payments and keep cards secure - Never leave bags or personal belongings unattended, even for a moment - Be cautious if someone distracts you, pickpockets often work in teams - If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and move away
If you believe you've been targeted: - Report it to the police as soon as possible - Cancel or freeze any bank cards you believe have been stolen - Use your phones tracking features if available and contact your network provider
If you witness suspicious behaviour or have information about thefts in the area, pleas report it to us. In an emergency, always call 999. For non emergency matters, report online or call 101.
Thank you for helping keeping the community safe
