Residents' Information Leads to Arrest for Immigration Offences in Woolwich Common Ward

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team in Woolwich Common Ward have taken positive action following reports from local residents regarding a man who had been repeatedly sleeping in open spaces and bushes within the area.

Over recent weeks, residents raised concerns about an individual who was regularly seen sleeping in public spaces around Woolwich Common, causing concern for local people and contributing to reports of anti-social behaviour.

Following these reports, SNT officers carried out patrols in the area and engaged with the individual. During a subsequent stop and search and a series of checks, officers identified immigration offences which resulted in the man's arrest.

The arrest was made as part of ongoing work by the local Safer Neighbourhood Team to address issues raised by residents and ensure public spaces remain safe and accessible for everyone in the community.

Officers will continue to patrol locations identified by residents and work with partner agencies to address concerns relating to rough sleeping, anti-social behaviour, and vulnerable individuals who may require support.
