Good Morning Residents, I hope you are all well. As you all know winter is upon us, which only means one thing, the nights are longer. I just would like you all to have a quick read of this whenever you're free.
Walking at night
As the evenings get darker, many of us find ourselves travelling to and from work, social events, or activities after sunset. While most journeys are completed without incident, taking a few simple precautions can help you feel safer and reduce your risk of becoming a victim of crime. β Plan Ahead π± Make sure your mobile phone is charged before leaving home. πΊοΈ Plan your route and, where possible, stick to well-lit and populated areas. π Check public transport times in advance to avoid unnecessary waiting. π₯ If possible, walk with friends, colleagues, or family members. π Stay Aware of Your Surroundings π§ Keep headphone volume low enough that you can hear what's happening around you. π± Avoid walking while distracted by your phone. πΆ Stay alert and be aware of the people around you. π‘ Choose well-lit routes and avoid shortcuts through isolated areas. π Protect Your Property π Keep bags zipped and close to your body. π± Keep mobile phones out of sight when not in use. π Avoid displaying valuables such as cash, expensive jewellery, or electronic devices unnecessarily. π Have your keys ready before reaching your destination rather than searching for them outside. π Travelling Safely π If using a taxi or private hire vehicle, ensure it is a licensed operator. π Sit near other passengers where possible when using public transport. π Let someone know your expected arrival time if travelling alone. π¨ Trust Your Instincts If a situation or person makes you feel uncomfortable, act on that feeling. πͺ Move towards a busy area, shop, or place of safety. π Contact a friend or family member if you feel vulnerable. π If you believe you are being followed, feel threatened, or are in immediate danger, call 999. π Remember Personal safety is about awareness, not alarm. By staying alert, planning ahead, and taking sensible precautions, you can reduce opportunities for criminals and help keep yourself safe. Stay aware. Stay connected. Stay safe. | ||
