I wanted to provide you an update regarding violent crime, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Manhunt launched as arrest made in Enfield fatal shooting Detectives investigating the fatal shooting of Erdem Mustafa have named a man they urgently need to trace and are appealing to the public for help.
Police want to speak to 35-year-old Abreham Woldegiworgis in connection with the incident. He is an Ethiopian national, who has links to the Enfield, Haringey and Brixton areas.
Anyone who sees him is urged to not approach but contact police immediately. Officers believe Woldegiworgis is the person captured in the CCTV image released last week, but he has since significantly altered his appearance. The fresh appeal comes after a 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 26 October on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. He remains in police custody.
Met detectives are continuing their investigation into the murder of Erdem, aged 35, at a pub in Hertford Road, Enfield. At around 21:30hrs on Monday, 19 October, officers attended the incident alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
The emergency services treated Erdem for gunshot wounds, but he was sadly later pronounced dead at the scene. Specialist officers are supporting his next-of-kin.
Investigators continue to urge anyone with information about the incident, which is believed to be a targeted attack, to contact police.
Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who is leading the investigation, said: “We remain committed to securing justice for Erdem as our thoughts remain with his loved ones at this unimaginably hard time.
“While I am pleased my team have made an arrest, our work continues at pace to investigate the full circumstances around Erdem’s murder. We are now releasing the details and images of a man we urgently need to speak to in connection with the incident.
“We are carrying out a number of enquiries to trace him but are also asking for the public’s help. If you recognise him or have any information on his whereabouts please come forward.
“We are still appealing for anyone with wider information about the shooting, including any CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage, to also contact us.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting CAD 7050/19OCT26, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.

Across London we’re using intelligence to ruthlessly target high-harm offenders while making better use of our ‘stop and search’ powers so we can get more weapons off the street. The number of murders in London has dropped to its lowest in more than a decade, and we have driven crime enabled by a knife down by 17% in a year. The rate of violence in London is lower than many other big cities, both in the UK and across the US and major European cities like Paris, Berlin and Barcelona. But the impact of senseless violence on families is devastating and certain communities are disproportionately affected. We’re not complacent and are determined to reduce it even further. We are stepping up our use of data and technology in this space, cutting off access to weapons, improving our investigations and working with communities and partners on targeted operations to help keep people safe. If you have experienced violent crime in your area, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.met.police.uk or call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, you can stay 100% anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. We want your help to shape the future of policing across London. We are seeking your views on our new inclusion strategy to ensure that the Met is a police service that is trusted, representative and more effective at keeping London safe. You can have your say on our Inclusion Strategy consultation which runs until Thursday 26 November. |
