Hackney Wick Safer Neighbourhoods Team

Your Safer Neighbourhoods Team is a group of Met police officers dedicated to serving your community. The team is made up of officers based in your area or 'ward', supported by additional officers from the wider area.

We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on reducing crime across London.

Local Priority Issues

We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to local communities. Based on our conversations with residents, and the issues they have raised with us, our main priorities are:

Burglary Issued 18 September 2026	There has been a recent increase to residential burglary over the past 3 months so this has been raised as a key priority by the local residents. The team will conduct targeted patrols in the affected areas, conduct contact points/community engagement events and provide crime prevention advice. The team will also conduct arrest enquiries for outstanding suspects involved in burglary/theft related offences. Actioned 30 December 2026
Robbery and Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) There are local concerns over violent crime, such as serious assaults and robberies, and such crime being targeted against women and girls. Issued 18 September 2026	As part of the VAWG initiative, regular ‘Walk and Talk’ sessions take place, details of which are published online. The team also conduct joint patrols and activities with the Hackney Enforcement Officers to target ASB and criminal offenders. Due to phone and bike thefts being a continued issue, phone and bike marking events continue to take place and will be offered to local residents. Arrest enquiries will also be conducted for those who have been identified as committing violent crime. Actioned 30 December 2026
Theft from the person has been a concern for local residents in recent months with it being one of the higher crime types on the ward, namely phone thefts. Issued 18 September 2026	Utilising up to date and relevant crime data, the team regularly target the areas where these offences are more frequently committed. The team work alongside partner agencies such as Hackney Enforcement and BTP to provide additional awareness and crime prevention as well as conducting both Hi-Vis and plain clothes patrols. The team monitor overnight crimes on the ward and conduct extensive CCTV enquiries to identify offenders and, once identified, conduct arrest enquiries to bring those offenders to justice.
