Southbury

Hello Southbury residents,

Your local Southbury Safer Neighbourhood Team has been out across the ward this week, focusing on the issues you’ve told us matter most.

👮‍♂️ Patrols & Visibility

- Increased high‑visibility patrols around Southbury Road, Ponders End High Street, and the retail parks, particularly during peak hours.

- Targeted reassurance patrols near schools during drop‑off and pick‑up times to support young people and parents.

🚗 Vehicle Crime Prevention

We’ve seen a rise in reports of thefts from vehicles in the area. Officers have been conducting evening patrols in hotspot streets and speaking with residents about simple steps to reduce risk. Please remember:

- Remove valuables from view - this is the single easiest way to protect not only you belongings but also the vehicle itself.

- Double‑check your vehicle is locked - with keyless entry and remote central locking doors can sometimes be left unlocked, always test the door to ensure its locked.

- Report suspicious behaviour to us as soon as you see it - if serious crime its 999, for other matters please use 101 or online reporting.

🏘️ Community Engagement

- Officers attended the Southbury Ward Panel, listening to your priorities and updating you on ongoing work.

- We’ve been visiting local businesses to offer crime‑prevention advice and strengthen our partnership approach to tackling shoplifting and antisocial behaviour.

- Shoplifting will continue to be a main focus for Southbury officers and recent prosecutions have seen a reduction in this offence at the Co Op Leighton Road.

🛠️ Problem‑Solving Work

We’re working with Enfield Council to address ongoing concerns around:

- Antisocial behaviour near Southbury Station

- Fly‑tipping hotspots around residential estates

- Youth-related concerns raised by local schools

Joint visits and follow‑up actions are already underway, with recent visits to Poynter Road as a priority.

📞 Stay Connected

Your feedback shapes our priorities. If you have concerns, information, or would like to meet the team, please get in touch or come along to one of our upcoming community contact sessions.

Together, we can keep Southbury a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to local communities. Based on our conversations with residents, and the issues they have raised with us, our main priorities are:

Priority Action taken

Southbury Ward Priority 1: ASB - Noise and anti social behaviour Ermine Side and Roman Way. Following previous walk abouts and the recent ward panel meeting this area ill remain priority 1 for Southbury. PMP Reference - PMP/90911/24

Issued 01 September 2025

During a recent walk about with officers a prolific drug user was found, arrested for failing to attend a drug rehabilitation programme. Patrols will continue and there are further walk abouts arranged.
This will remain a proactive management plan as the area continues to have issues with drugs and ASB - patrols and intervention will continue.
**Update** as part of operation Sceptre officers conducted patrols of the area and conducted a weapons sweap. There was also activity in near by shops in relation to the purchasing of knives and the "think 25" age challenges that shops should employ.

Patrols will begin on 4th August. Community will be spoken to and asked for intelligence. Addresses will be identified and dealt with.
Next day of activity will be the 10th of November in conjunction with council.
**Update** For residents of Poynter road the next meeting with police and council officials will be held on the 11th of December 1745 onwards. The location for the meeting is being organised and will be updated on Met Engage in due course.

Meeting held with residents of Poynter Road. Much of the meeting focused on the council and Ark Resettlement Housing. This specificaly looked at the number of HMOs on the street and the impact these are having. Some progress was made here with a meeting scheduled for every 14 days.
Police gave details of the recent, positive activity the SNT have had in reducing shoplifting at the local Co-Op.

Actioned 03 January 2026

Southbury Ward Priority 3: Shoplifting was highlighted at the ward panel meeting for the Co - Op Leighton road. This is a priority crime for Southbury ward as it is linked to other crime types like drugs and failing to appear.

Issued 01 September 2025

Plans were made and a plain clothes operation was conducted. One male, prolific shoplifter arrested.

This operation will continue.

Update - two more prolific shoplifters have been arrested as part of ongoing work with the Co-Op to try and reduced shoplifting.

**Update** 4 prolofic shoplifters have been arrested and charged with numnerous theft offences from this store. This has seen a 92% reduction in shoplifting within the store. For reference August 51 offences, September 31 offences, October 2 offences. This will remain a priority for Southbury SNT who will continue to support this store and deal with offenders. The ward are now utilising the Criminal Behaviour Orders - which are applied for at the courts and are designed to stop persons continuing their behaviours. Breaches can lead to further punisments. This work demonstrates the wards commitment to dealing with this prolific crime.

Numerous arrests have now been made involving various well known offenders. The use of Community Behaviour Orders are now being brought into effect to improve chances of conviction at court.

Officers are now activey looking named suspect who has filled the void following the prosecution of other shoplifters. The team continue to work hard evidence gathering and buiding a solid case against the suspect so that upon arrest swift justice can be sought.
