Forest Gate North Safer Neighbourhoods Team

Your Safer Neighbourhoods Team is a group of Met police officers dedicated to serving your community. The team is made up of officers based in your area or 'ward', supported by additional officers from the wider area.

We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on reducing crime across London.

To contact to your team about local policing issues, email us at ForestGateNorth@contact.metengage.co.uk or pick an officer to email below. (Please do not use this contact method to report crime, in an emergency always call 999 or you can report crime online at www.met.police.uk or dial 101).

Local Priority Issues

We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to local communities. Based on our conversations with residents, and the issues they have raised with us, our main priorities are:

Priority Action taken

ASB and Fly Tipping - Local residents have raised concerns about about fly tipping, littering, drug-related activity, sex-related anti-social behaviour, and other vehicle-related anti-social
behaviour affecting Capel Road and the adjoining areas of Wanstead Flats.
Fly-tipping is one of the most persistent problems affecting Capel Road and the adjoining Wanstead Flats
boundary. Although residents do not currently have access to figures showing the number of incidents, the
frequency and nature of the dumping suggest that Capel Road is experiencing a significant problem.

Issued 21 May 2026

The central purpose of this is to set out the issues in detail, explain the impact on residents and users
of Wanstead Flats, and propose practical measures that could reduce the likelihood of these problems
occurring in the first place. These include targeted CCTV, improved signage, and a more coordinated
response between the City of London Corporation, Newham Council and the Metropolitan Police through Joint Working.

Actioned 21 August 2026

often Groups of people gather, causing ASB through Drinking, taking Drugs, littering, and Sex Work, there have also been reports of Assaults taking place in the early hours.

Issued 21 May 2026

Officers will conduct Plan Cloth & high-visibility patrols in the area during the evening hours, issuing ASB warnings, CPW's, CPN's and Penalty Notices for Disorders where necessary as a deterrent.
For Women found involved in Sex work we will look at Prostitution Cautions, offer support for women, who are often vulnerable – via partnership agency referrals - and offer educational courses to clients as a form of restorative justice.

Ward Priority - Speeding on Forest Gate North

Speeding has been identified as a key concern within the ward, with residents reporting vehicles regularly exceeding speed limits, particularly in residential areas and near schools. This behaviour poses a significant risk to pedestrian safety, cyclists, and other road users.

Issued 21 May 2026

Local priorities will focus on:

Increasing high-visibility patrols at peak times
Working with partner agencies to conduct speed enforcement operations
Deploying speed awareness initiatives (e.g. mobile speed signs or community speed watch schemes)
Engaging with residents to identify hotspot locations

The aim is to reduce speeding, improve road safety, and enhance community confidence.

The word cloud below represents the issues raised by residents through their Local Matters survey. We take this into consideration along with discussions with stakeholders, ward panel meetings and conversations with the public when setting our key priorities
