Welcome to Met Engage,

We're transforming the Met to become a service that truly delivers for you.

Through our new platform Met Engage you can get to know your local officers, help shape how we police your local area and have direct access to key information and advice.

This isn't just a platform for us to tell you what we're doing in your area, it's an opportunity for you to tell us what's concerning you most so we can take action on the things that truly matter to you.

Plaistow South Safer Neighbourhoods Team

Your Safer Neighbourhoods Team is a group of Met police officers dedicated to serving your community. The team is made up of officers based in your area or 'ward', supported by additional officers from the wider area.

We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on reducing crime across London.

To contact to your team about local policing issues, email us at PlaistowSouth@contact.metengage.co.uk or pick an officer to email below. (Please do not use this contact method to report crime, in an emergency always call 999 or you can report crime online at www.met.police.uk or dial 101).

Local Priority Issues

We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to local communities. Based on our conversations with residents, and the issues they have raised with us, our main priorities are:

Priority Action taken

Violence Related Priority

The ward has seen an increase in general vehicle crime including theft of and theft from motor vehicles.
A number of these offences include thefts of pedal cycles and electric pedal cycles and scooters whereby force has been used to steal the vehicles.
A number of Lost or Stolen vehicle have also been located within the ward suggesting that offenders are using the ward locations to store stolen vehicles for later collection.

Issued 17 July 2025

Ward officers are working closely with cross borough colleagues to share intelligence around prolific offenders especially those involved in robberies of pedal cycles, electric scooters and other vehicles across the ward. The identified nominals are then targeted to disrupt criminal activity and likewise on a national scale to ensure that intelligence is shared around vehicle crime and work to bring identified offenders to justice.
More proactive vehicle stops and patrols of known hotspots.

Anti Social Behaviour continues to be an ongoing issue across the ward and across Newham as a whole.
This ranges from ASB involving vehicles to large groups of youths frequenting isolated areas and also ASB as a result of drug use and supply.
There has been an increased number of reports originating from the car park of Newham General Hospital and Newham Leisure Centre reported within the early hours of the morning.
Ward officers have also become aware of a number of premises involved in sex work which have in turn been causing ASB for local residents.

Issued 17 July 2025

Uniform and plain clothes patrols patrol in and around the hospital to reduce the increase in ASB, cycle thefts and robberies.
Officers are also targeting known brothels to disrupt activity linked to sex work and modern slavery with a number of these locations being shut down in recent months and the perpetrators brought to justice.

NewVic College / Youth Engagement

There has been an increasing number of complaints around students and other youths congregating in mass outside of the college causing noise related ASB and preventing residents from safely passing the college due to blockages of the pavement and bus stop areas. There have also been a number of reports around fights involving students from the NewVic College and other student across the borough which have caused alarm to residents.

Issued 17 July 2025

Since the removal of Safer Schools Officers there has been an effort to ensure that there is a police liaison officer from Neighborhoods Policing to ensure an ongoing relationship and joint approach to tackle the issues at hand.
Improved relationship building with the college and staff.
Increased patrols during college kick out times.
