St Helier Safer Neighbourhoods Team

Your Safer Neighbourhoods Team is a group of Met police officers dedicated to serving your community. The team is made up of officers based in your area or 'ward', supported by additional officers from the wider area.

We work closely with local authorities, community leaders and residents to decide our policing priorities for the area. This helps us to find useful, long-term solutions to local problems, while maintaining our wider focus on reducing crime across London.

Local Priority Issues

We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to local communities. Based on our conversations with residents, and the issues they have raised with us, our main priorities are:

Shoplifting offences Issued 18 June 2026	St Helier Ward and other teams will aim to tackle and reduce shoplifting offences and bring offenders to justice by; - Completing operations on Morden High Street targeting those committing theft offences - Working with business premises to ID offenders through the use of CCTV or other enquiries - Work with other teams within the Metropolitan police to secure convictions where there is appropriate evidence of an offence - Patrol areas where there are a higher number of shoplifting offences as part of a typical daily deployment Shoplifting offences do continue to occur, as a team we will continue to run operations in the town centre, both ourselves and working with council teams and store detectives on days of action to target theft offences So far we have run three operations in the Morden area, leading to the arrests and charges of numerous offenders as well as other disposals such as on the spot fines or banning notices for other offenders not suitable for arrest. 1 male was sentenced to 20 months in prison for associated theft offences Actioned 18 September 2026
Burglary Issued 18 June 2026	Officers and PCSO's will visit all victims of burglary, offering re-assurance and crime prevention advice to the community. Working in partnership with our investigation teams we will look to identify any evidential leads, such as CCTV to pursue offenders and bring justice to victims. We have run two pro-active operations in the area in 2026, both resulting in reduced reports of burglary and motor vehicle crime in the associated time frame, as well as a number of arrests completed for a variety of offences. Motor-vehicle crime - both theft of and theft from motor vehicle Issued 18 June 2026	Pro-active operations have taken place in an attempt to tackle this issue, officers working extended or additional shifts has taken place targeting areas of high motor-vehicle crime which has lead to arrests of offenders during the deployments. We have run two pro-active operations in the area in 2026, both resulting in reduced reports of burglary and motor vehicle crime in the associated time frame, as well as a number of arrests completed for a variety of offences.
