Priority 1 –Shoplifting/ Commercial Robbery
There has been an increase in the number of shoplifters targeting commercial and retail stores in Balham. Officers have put together current and future operations to combat this as well aiming to provide high visibility patrols.

Balham DWOs will liaise with local schools to deliver safety talks to students and children when requested, promoting awareness and prevention. Officers will host engagement events with the Community Safety Officer upon their availability to listen to community concerns and provide crime prevention advice & guidance. High-visibility and plain-clothes patrols will be increased around Balham High Road, Balham Tube, and Wandsworth Common Rail Station to deter and detect offenders. This priority also includes addressing shoplifting incidents where offenders have confronted staff and stolen items. These actions aim to prevent offences, reassure the public, and strengthen community confidence through proactive engagement and visible policing in key locations.

Priority 2 -ASB - Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) remains a key priority in Balham. Dedicated Ward Officers will conduct regular high-visibility patrols in areas identified by residents as experiencing persistent ASB, including Lochinvar Estate, Hildreth Mews, Hanson Close and Boundary House. These targeted patrols aim to deter nuisance behaviour, address community concerns, and provide reassurance to local residents.

Officers will engage directly with the community through local engagement events and information stalls, working alongside the Community Safety Officer and partner agencies to offer crime prevention advice and address issues raised by residents. Increased visibility, proactive engagement, and problem-solving activity will help reduce opportunities for ASB and strengthen public confidence in policing.
Progress will be monitored through community feedback, resident engagement, and reported crime and ASB trends to ensure an effective and responsive approach to keeping Balham safe.

priority 3 -Theft from motor vehicle (TFMV) remains a priority across Balham, with a particular focus on the west side of the ward, where offences have been identified through crime reports, intelligence, and community feedback. Dedicated Ward Officers will carry out targeted patrols in locations most affected by vehicle crime, providing a visible presence to deter offenders and reassure residents.

Officers will engage with residents, motorists, and local businesses to promote vehicle security and crime prevention advice, encouraging simple measures such as removing valuables, locking vehicles, and reporting suspicious activity. Working with partner agencies and the wider neighbourhood policing team, officers will seek opportunities to disrupt offending and reduce the risk of vehicles being targeted.
Through increased visibility, targeted patrols, and community engagement, the team aims to reduce TFMV offences and improve public confidence. Progress will be monitored through crime trends, intelligence, and feedback from residents to ensure policing activity remains focused on the areas of greatest concern.
