Local Priority Issues
We are committed to tackling the issues that matter most to local communities. Based on our conversations with residents, and the issues they have raised with us, our main priorities are:
| Priority | Action taken |
|---|---|
|
1. Violence Related Priority: Over recent months the COOP store on Plaistow Road E13 has been the target of high frequency shoplifting amounting to tens of thousands of pounds in losses each week. On numerous occasions the individuals responsible have used various weapons against security and store staff, causing fear and distress. Issued 30 July 2026 |
Action: Officers are working closely with MITIE who have provided an analyst to monitor the offences and provide crucial evidence to assist in prosecutions. Actioned 30 October 2026 |
|
The key problem to be addressed is the continued use of adresses on the ward being used as suspected brothels linked to organised criminality, immigration offending and the potential exploitation of vulnerable females. Issued 30 July 2026 |
The primary objective will therefore be to identify those responsible for managing and facilitating the operations, safeguard any vulnerable persons linked to these premises, address the community impact on neighbouring residents and determine the extent of any organised criminality associated with the address. Actioned 30 October 2026 |
|
The Red House Public House, 299 Barking Road, E13 8EQ, and the adjoining King Street, E13, have been identified as a ward priority for Plaistow West and Canning Town East following a sustained increase in reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) over the past three months. Issued 30 July 2026 |
Plaistow West & Canning Town East Ward Officers and PCSOs will conduct regular high-visibility patrols in and around The Red House Public House and King Street, E13, particularly during peak periods identified through community reporting. Officers will engage with patrons, residents and the premises management to address anti-social behaviour and reinforce expectations regarding responsible conduct. Actioned 30 October 2026 |
The word cloud below represents the issues raised by residents through their Local Matters survey. We take this into consideration along with discussions with stakeholders, ward panel meetings and conversations with the public when setting our key priorities
